Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway wedding

Summer 2026

A new wedding venue, perfect for two day celebrations

The first wedding ever held at Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway!

Alison and Ross have spent the last few years creating this beautiful wedding venue, so it seemed wonderfully appropriate that their own wedding day would be the very first held here.

And we were there to capture it all. Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway is a 100 acre exclusive use estate at Leitrim Village, Co. Leitrim, about two hours from Dublin, built around a woodland ceremony space, a converted timber barn for the reception, and sixteen lodges where the whole wedding party can stay for the weekend. It’s not a venue that’s been hosting weddings for decades, it’s the couple’s own creation, brought to life on land that sat quiet for forty years before they took it on.

We’ve filmed a lot of Irish wedding venues over the years, but being there for the very first wedding at a place, filmed by the people who built it, is genuinely rare, and it gave the whole day an added weight that came through in every part of the film.

Wedding Ceremony Spaces at Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway

Drumhierny offers an outdoor woodland ceremony beneath the tree canopy, with the Barn and the Cedaroo available as indoor alternatives. The main ceremony space sits under the trees near Sheemore, the hill that looks over Leitrim Village, and it’s as close to getting married in a forest as you’ll find at an Irish wedding venue.

For couples who’d rather be under cover, or who get a wet forecast, both the Barn and the Cedaroo, a glass-fronted timber structure looking out over the woodland, can be used as ceremony spaces instead.

Alison and Ross married in the woodland setting they’d spent years building, which is about as personal as a ceremony location gets. We’d recommend an early-to-mid afternoon ceremony time if you’re marrying outdoors here, the tree cover means the light stays soft and even for longer than it would in open parkland, which is a real advantage for anyone filming or photographing the ceremony itself.

If you’re planning a church ceremony before heading to Drumhierny, we don’t yet have confirmed details on churches near Leitrim Village and Carrick-on-Shannon, it’s worth checking with the venue directly when you enquire.

Reception Spaces at Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway

The Barn is Drumhierny’s main reception space, a converted timber building finished in reclaimed pine, imperial brick and solid oak trusses, with a run of wagon-wheel pendant lights overhead. It’s built to take the room from formal dinner to dancing without needing to move anyone. It seats up to 200 guests for a seated dinner, and up to 350 for a non-seated celebration. The design leaves plenty of room to lay the room out as long banquet tables, a traditional top table, or something more relaxed, and the venue is upfront that there’s no fixed timeline for speeches or courses, so the day can run at your own pace.

Drinks and cocktails typically move through the Cedaroo and the outdoor firepit area between the ceremony and dinner, which gives guests somewhere to gather outdoors while the Barn is turned around for the meal. In the evening, the same space converts for a band, a DJ, or a bit of ceilí dancing.

Outdoor Spaces at Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway

The estate runs to 100 acres of native woodland, with five kilometres of trails, individual fire pits at each lodge, and the Cedaroo’s glass walls framing the trees. It’s genuinely a woodland estate rather than a country house with nice grounds attached, and that comes through in the photos and film in every season. The riverside setting on the Shannon and the woodland canopy give plenty to work with for couple portraits, without needing to leave the property.

Accommodation Options for Your Guests

Drumhierny has sixteen lodges across four different styles, Birds of a Feather, Habitat, ReTREEt and Wildflower, each sleeping up to six guests in three bedrooms, with private decks, fire pits and their own kitchens. Between them the estate can sleep somewhere in the region of 100 guests on site, though the exact figure depends on how the lodges are configured, so it’s worth confirming numbers for your own guest list when you enquire.

It means a wedding here can genuinely run over the whole weekend, with everyone staying together on the one estate rather than scattering to hotels nearby. There’s also a Wellbeing Sanctuary on site, with hot tubs, a cedarwood sauna and seaweed baths, which most couples use for a relaxed morning-after session with close family or the bridal party.

Typical Pricing for Weddings at Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway

Drumhierny doesn’t publish pricing, packages or minimum guest numbers, couples are asked to enquire directly for a quote. From what we’ve gathered, catering is handled through the venue’s recommended suppliers rather than an in-house kitchen, and Day Two celebrations, a more relaxed continuation in the Barn with casual food, are offered as an add-on. As with any venue, confirm current pricing, minimum numbers and what’s included directly with Drumhierny before you book, as packages and terms can change.

Alison and Ross’s Drumhierny Wedding

Alison and Ross’s wedding film captures something you don’t often get to film: the very first wedding at a venue the couple built themselves. From the woodland ceremony they designed to the reception in the Barn they spent years fitting out, every part of the day was somewhere they knew intimately, which gave it a different feel to any other wedding we’ve filmed. We’re excited to share it, have a look and see for yourself what a wedding day at Drumhierny looks like.

We have no words for these videos, they are amazing!! We’ve watched them over and over and they bring us to tears each time. You captured the day, the energy and everything just wonderfully!!! We are over the moon!!

Thank you for the work on this, you really brought our day back to life!!!
